Summary
Session 47 - 09.04.2026
((I joined online as I was in Norfolk and mum wasn't well - didn't want to leave her))
The new year will take place about a week after Deepforge (or Forgemas as the party have taken to calling it)
Hear animal feet running into the vigil - stray dogs run into the crowd
- darting around, not hostile
- have bags with the paper in
- must be from The Burnt Root!!
- the dogs are giving to everyone but us...
- Beet manages to snatch 1
Paulderburg Broadsheet: 30, Flirty & Dirty
- may have the headline a little wrong
- scandal
- "a party to die for"
- "Beet: socialite or cultist?"
- blood pacts in past
- Beet tortured guests and turned into frogs (part of her cult past)
- the vigil: "mourning or narrative control?"
- Obragado's article (I'm sure on the command of Nettle as we found her out)
Ellywick sings a song to defend Beet
- flattering portrait composed for her birthday
- Ellywick adds a little at the end about how upset Beet is about Fernetta
- not persuasive....
Beet fails to persuade the crowd either - in persuading the dogs to give her the paper, she was on all fours acting like a dog, and the crowd think she is a freak
Ivy uncharacteristically made a speech in Beet's defence
- says she doesn't always like her or agree with her
- but that Beet is being wrongly accused in this case
- also says that Beet has already reported this to the authorities and criticses them for their poor reaction
- the crowd are pretty persuaded
(the redhead Genasi is our suspect)
Suddenly we see long strands of vapour appear in the air - magic
Somebody is spelling in the cloud:
Beet catches this as it is being written and casts an cloud writing and with the same font (same as the note she received at the birthday with the heart - Nettle?) and look so the crowd sees:
The mourners seem uneasy and disperse, but don't realise that 2 people are writing the message, just think Beet is being weird and casting this for all to see.
We hear heavy footfall
- 8 guards of Paulderburg arrive
- with a Captain in a pointed oval hat - Throbert Reid
- we don't recognise the guards from any previous encounter
- they ask us to come to Lord Highhelm
- Ellywick plays it so it seems like we are assisting with the investigation instead of being arrested on suspicion of murder
- Ivy manoeuvres so it seems like she is shaking hands with the Captain
- the guards seem nervous, but are actually guards just new recruits
- head to the Fox and Hound
When we enter the Fox and Hound
- asked to remove our weapons
- Ivy keeps her sharp knitting needles and walking stick
- Ellywick keeps most of her weapons
- Beet doesn't really need any
- Fin gives up all of her weapons (Rachel hadn't yet arrived so was subject to our whims)
We go in to see Lord Highhelm
- he looks very handsome
- he fancies Beet and Fin, and has warm feelings towards Ivy
- he feels NOTHING for Ellywick
- apparently they have a PI on the case - Quintesha Maverick
- he tells us we are under house arrest in our castle
- we all protest and give him a massive telling off - to no avail
Ivy terrorises Throbert Reid as he escorts them back to Tideholm Keep
Mugshots of Beet have gone up all around Paulderburg
- she asks her hireling to dress in disguise and take them down overnight
There are 10 soldiers poster around Tideholm Keep
- Captain Throbert Reid has a horselike face, white candyfloss hair and in his early 60s
- ask Luvon to get gossip from the guards
We barricade ourselves inside the castle and head to the kitchen
STILL WRITE UP JOURNEY TO NEAR CLIFFKEEP
Summary
At the vigil Nettle and Obragado send out their newspaper delivering dogs with a smear campaign about Beet (and sort of all of us). We are escorted to Lord Highhelm who puts us under house arrest. We sneak out towards Cliffkeep, finding out that Verdania has outlawed magic along the way, and thinks Lady Kathryn is a witch who opened a portal for deviants (the refugees from Candlegore Teeth) - she is also auditioning new jesters.
