Recap

Ivy makes a bet with 2 pub goers, who screwed her over by dooming Beet to fall. Find out that the Portrait of Yass is a phylactery that if we destroy we can kill her. We go into The Treasure Trail and find a clone of Ellywick performing, and end up arguing with Aunty. She says we can have dinner with her if we bring her a unicorn horn. We find the 2 routes we could go to visit her at Motherhorn Castle.

Session 36 - 7.10.2025

Can take 2 routes from the tavern:

  1. The Catwalk - chains along the side of the cliff, much quicker by dangerous
  2. The Hallows - go down via the cave path of purple crystal - can meet at the Church of Lost Acts

Swagra is in the corner - eating a blood red orange?

We meet Salma - is wearing a massive jumper, and has weirdly mismatched clothes

There is lightning striking the castle from the clouds - might strike us if we take the catwalk?

We head along The Hallows route, into the cave through a skull mouth

Pumpernickel flies ahead - can hear applause?

There is glowing crystal in the walls in non natural patterns - appear deliberately made

mnemosyne stones - created by strong emotion

The cave feels emotional and grieving

Ellywick plays a sad song

Beet sings a song but not as good so no stone

Ellywick smashes her mnemosyne stones and we experience the memory, then it disapates

Find 3 stones with Aunty memories in (discussed more in next session when activated, Memory 1, Memory 2, Memory 3 )

We find a side cavern with a purple glow and water

Summary

We leave the tavern and head along the longer route (The Hallows) underground through a cave. We meet Uni and find mnemosyne stones with some of Aunty's memories. Uni gives us the horn from his 2nd mate, and in exchange for his protection, Ivy gives him memories of the forest Athelthorne so that he can go there to live safely. We emerge from the cave to find a circus wagon with marionettes of us, that disappears when we touch them.

Rohan's Summary

The morning after your night in the tavern, you discussed your next plans. An ugly stereotype of a witch, named Swagra, offered to be your guide to Motherhorn Castle. You declined. Instead, choosing to travel with a Tiefling in an oversized knitted sweater- Salma. 🧙 😈 🧶

You cleverly noticed that Aunty appeared to be going by an other name here, Weatherspoon. you pieced together that maybe this related to her having some power over the weather in the region, (side note- back in Brine's realm- you remember that the frog people worshipped Brine almost as a hero, after she saved them from a storm that Aunty allegedly sent out to them.

Fin was nowhere to be found in the treasure trail in the morning. she needed some space to clear her head and agreed to catch up to the party in a few hours.

You chose to travel through the hollows, an underground cave system through the caverns of the purple crystals, where you encountered stalactites that dripped acid, and every echo turned into applause.

You realised that this cavern was seeped in repressed, unhappiness. purple crystals grew out of the walls in the cavern, you recalled these as mnemosyne stones - a rare crystal that forms only in specific regions in the feywild. They form in places of deep emotional turmoil, or when someone focuses on a specific memory that is very emotional to them.

Ellywick played her saddest song, about not being able to save a halfling from the goblins at the start of your adventure, and a crystal formed. Ellywick felt all of her emotions surrounding that incident, leave her body. like she was indifferent to that memory now.

She smashed the crystal and you all saw a purple ghost like vision of Ellywick sing the same song she just played, like a ghostly recording, and you all suddenly felt a deep pang of grief and sorrow, before the recording finished and the feelings left.

Beet realised she could see the ghostly faces of people inside the crystals, and with the help of the party, found three crystals that had Aunty's face in them, and  you carefully harvested the stones, unsure how to activate them without smashing them.

Memories:

You traveled deeper and found a subterranean lake, with an island in it, where you met Uni, the unicorn. Last of her herd, she warned you not to enter the lake. You introduced yourselves to her and learnt that she was guarded this lake, and that it was created from her tears. She was the last of her kind, her herd hunted to near extinction-primarily from Aunty's poaching.

You learnt that someone can give up pieces of their memory altogether. As a sign of good faith, Ivy gave up a memory of one day in her cabin in Athelthorne, and told Uni that she would be happier there- Beet remembered that other unicorns also lived in Athelthorne so she wouldn't be alone.

Uni showed the party one memory that Aunty had given up, and forgotten. it showed a teenage Aunty, talking to herself. claiming that she had seen the future, and in it, Yassandra becomes so obsessed with perfection, she would be a terrible mother and eat her own young. she said she would make herself the villain to save Yassandra's future child. she then convinced the young Yassandra into making this bargain, trading her first born in return for alchemical powers and beauty.

Uni appreciated fine art, so Beet drew her a picture of a unicorn in the mud at the riverbank, Salma used her elemental magics to animate the unicorns and make the painting jump about, Uni enjoyed this and brought the party a gift, the horn of her mate.

Ellywick identified that this horn had 3 charges, and could be used to end sicknesses, dispel curses, lycanthropy, vampirisms, and some other abilities. It was a powerful item and sure enough to be needed in the future.

After leaving the caverns, you found yourself at the graveyard of lost acts, where a pagaent wagon trundled up to you and small marionettes that looked like yourselves flittered about on a stage. Ellywick touched the wagon and it immediately fell apart into loose planks and painted wood.

Around you, there were tombstones in elvish, with the names of musicians and performers that had not given a good enough performance.

You defaced some of the tombstones and wrote Aunty's name on them, almost immediately, bolts of lighting shot down from the sky and attempted to smote you.

You left on, and continued up Motherhorn Castle, getting closer and closer to the peak to prepare for your roast…..
