Following the catastrophic Battle of Cragleaf Basin and the growing distrust of magic, the kingdom of Verdania descended into a dark period known as the Witch Hunts. Led by a radical religious order known as the Righteous Flame, these hunts targeted anyone suspected of practicing magic, often resulting in brutal executions. The fear and paranoia spread across the land, leading to the persecution of countless innocent people. Magic users either fled to more tolerant regions, such as Athelthorne and Paulderburg, or went into hiding. The Witch Hunts left deep scars on Verdania, fracturing communities and sowing mistrust that still lingers, generations on.
